The Chuuk State Senate is the upper chamber of the Legislature, responsible for reviewing and passing legislation, confirming executive appointments, and representing the interests of Chuuk State’s constituencies at the highest level of state lawmaking.

Based on regional equality, the Senate consists of 10 members, who shall be known as Senators, of which each of the (5) Senatorial Regions shall elect two. Senatorial regions are listed in the Chuuk State Constitution Article V Section 3, subsection a.

Senators are elected by registered voters in their districts during general elections held in accordance with Chuuk State election law. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements including residency and citizenship as defined by the Constitution.

The Senate operates standing committees that cover key policy areas such as finance and appropriations, health and social affairs, natural resources, and public safety. Committee assignments are made at the start of each legislative term by Senate leadership.
